Internet Shopping

I've never been a big fan of internet shopping. I fear of credit card fraud and difficult support/return. Also takes too long to get here. I'm really impatient sometimes and when I want something, I need to go out and touch it within an hour or two. But I know the internet is so much cheaper and has a wider variety of things. How hard is it to return an item over the internet if possible at all? Which internet store is best about return items and price?

I can second the googlegear and mwave I have used both with no issues. Mwave replaced a board I had 2x (the pos) it was the board not mwave.

Also a trusted site for me is neocomputers.com while they are not the cheepest (but not bad) the are a home town shop that always makes right, if it dosent work they will replace it.

I always use a credit card on the net with no problems. Here is the big tip.Make sure your credit card only has a limit of 500 dollars, any credit card cop will do that for you. That way even if they do sleal, they wont get ****.

Sorry to say that tigerdirect.com really isn't the best place to shop. They have a pretty mediocre rating (http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1983.html) and speaking from personal experience, they are not the best. I'd stick with places like newegg, googlegear (now zipzoomfly.com), and mwave.

Which places have good return policies? Sometimes when something doesn't fit/work properly with the computer, I return it for a different one. It's most important to me.

The only thing I'd like to say about tigerdirect, is watch thier "specials". I bought a mobo from them recently thinking it was cheap since they said it was on "special". Later I found out that it was thier regular price, they had just posted it in a "buy this fast before the price goes up" page. Then I found it on newegg.com for even cheaper. I'll be shopping from newegg from now on.

I always check on newegg, mwave and tigerdirect before I decide where to buy my stuff. So far, I never had any problem with these three suppliers on deliveries and returns.

My advice is to stay away from TigerDirect. You can often get the same Crucial RAM at NewEgg for the same price that Crucial has it for. The best thing about Crucial is their Memory Configurator. I once ordered some Crucial PC133 SDRAM from NewEgg that I couldn't get to work. I then went to Crucial, ordered the one that they suggested and it worked like a charm.

Were you able to return the Crucial PC133 SDRAM back to NewEgg because I'm hearing that you can't on NewEgg.

Yes you can and a quick trip to the newegg site will prove it.
On the rare occassions that a product is non-refundable there will be a large blue lettered sentence over it reading " This product is non-refundable. Exchange for the same part only "
At the moment that seems to apply to the 9800pro.

I get all my hardware from googlegear.com (now Zipzoomfly.com, gag!) or newegg.com like most others here. But for software or accessories like printers, check out Amazon.com. I've save some bucks shopping there.

I've been buying off the net since I was 18. The first big thing I ever bought was from Amazon.com. I bought my mom a Canon Powershot digital camera for $500 for her B-day I think it was. Anyways, I amortized the camera and used it for 1 year; it was my gift to all the special occasions for the year (Mother's Day, Valentines, Bday, Xmas). (Amortized meaning to spread the cost of an asset over its useful life. Technically, it pertains to intangible assets such as patents, goodwill, copyrights. Depreciation is for fixed-tangible assets...but depreciate has a bad connotation.)

I never had to RMA anything yet so I am quite happy.

I take certain precautions to protect my info and credit card.

1. I never buy from small businesses with my card. I usually pay them thru Paypal.

2. I only use 1 card to purchase anything on the internet.

3. I check my online statement (available credit line) on a daily basis.

4. My card has fraud protection. I don't know the details of it but it helps me sleep thru the night.

5. I always check if the site is secure (has the lock icon on IE or the address begins with https) before giving any critical info.

6. I visit BBOnline, pricegrabber, resellerratings to get the info on a new company before ordering.

7. I always make copies of my transactions.

8. I usually run spybot, adaware, swat it, NAV on a regular basis.

9. I make sure I have ZA on before making any purchases.

Newegg and Mwave both have "no questions asked" return policies just like Best Buy does.

The reason they're cheap is you get no tech support and there's no store. They won't hassle you about returning somethin.

The real problem with Tiger Direct is they sell a lot of cheap junk. If the brand name of something is not prominent, you can bet it's PC Chips or subsidiary. (Note - "Pine" is a PC Chips company)

You can also try directron.com , they have prices thats are the same or close to newegg. There customer service is great, and from what I've read on there site its easy to return something. And if you live in houston texas you can just go and pick up your order and not have to pay for shipping.
