IE Content Advisor

I need help. I got a computer from a buddy of mine, and I just installed AOL. When I try to go to pretty much any website (yahoo, netscape, etc.), I get a pop-up asking for a "Content Advisor" password. Well, I talked to the guy that I bought the computer from and he doesn't remember the password. How do I change/get rid of this password and content advisor? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Is that he does not remember or your parents will not tell you?

His parents will not tell him is what I get from it.....

He just installed AOL so that means there would not be a password to begin with so his friend couldn't help him.

Sorry I wish I could help but I just dont know in your case.

IE Content Advisor

I figured someone would say that. Check out some of the other posts that I have had, and let me know if you think that I am still a kid trying to access porn. I don't want to have to call Microsoft support and pay a fee because of this. Any help is appreciated.

If you just got the comp there wont be much to back up so you could wipe the drive and start again. If its your parents comp however this may be hard to explain and they will just put the password back on.

It is from the IE that was on the machine...he used it for his daughter. I also have Netscape on the machine, which I can get to anything that I want, but I want to use the AOL browser (so I can IM and view my buddy list). If nobody wants to help, that's fine, but I just sat here for about 3 hours downloading a new version of IE, and it still comes up.

I don't want to wipe the drive because that will clear out everything (Excel, Access, Word, Money, etc.) I obviously don't have the CD's to reinstall them.

Let me ask this then...Is there a way to change your default browser from IE to Netscape? All I really want to be able to do is access websites through my AOL window, rather than the netscape window.

If not, is another option unistalling IE and AOL, then reistalling AOL. Will that screw anything up?

You can change your default browser. A few popular ones here on the forums is Opera or Mozilla (do a quick search at google to find them.) I don't recommend Netscape, but do what you want. If you open a new browser, there should be an option to make that browser the default, and if not, go to preferences i believe. HTH

Because of our rules here, I will tell you this.........it's not difficult to reset content advisor password, but you will have to Google a solution, we just can't post that info here.

Do you have AIM, Yahoo, MSN, or IRC? IRC is the best choice because we have a chat set up on there, channel #pcmech. You can IM me if you don't find any info, kstatefan7 on AIM, kstatefan40 on yahoo, kstatefan40@hotmail.com on MSN. If not, you can e-mail me at kstatefan40@yahoo.com. HTH

#Pcmech not on ICQ

Tyler, all - I looked for the chat room #pcmech on ICQ. Am I missing something?
