IE in XP

This concerns my son's computer. He has XPhome, IE, ZA, AVG and has updated Spybot & AA to find and get rid of any spyware. It's a Compaq and has NO repair feature on the recovery disk.

The Problem: A webpage will open in IE, but a link that opens a NEW page (as opposed to a page in the same window) will NOT open. It seems to start, and puts the indicator in the task bar, but will not open.

Also after closing all windows, there is STILL the IE indicator in the task bar which has to be closed.

Any Help?

The fixes on this page have worked for me to resolve the "link won't open in new window" problem.

Thanks Miz... I'll try that tonight when I'm again visiting the PC. He's got so many utilities on the thing, I'm ready to tell him to get anything he wants saved and just do a full recovery.
