Zone Alarm was working ok until I reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled it. Zone Alarm installs- the icon is on the systray and I get the Zone Alarm startup announcement. However, it isn't functioning as it is supposed to. At first, Zone Alarm would not remember any programs that I had given permission to access the internet (even though I checked the box for it to remember the program). Each time I restarted the computer, the programs in the program list vanished and I was once again asked for permission to allow the programs to access the internet (i.e., IE). So, I uninstalled Zone Alarm and used regedit to delete all instances of Zone Alarm in the registry and then reinstalled it (I'm using the lastest version). After the reinstall, Zone Alarm no longer asks for permission to allow programs to access the internet, it just lets the program through without question and lists each program as a server. I also checked Zone Alarm's firewall with the Shields up site (https://grc.com/)and found that Zone Alarm was not blocking access to my computer.

Checked for viruses-- known found. I reinstalled Zone Alarm several times, making sure there were no programs running in the background and I re-downloaded Zone Alarm and still achieved the same result.

I'm using a cable modem and also have an in home (phone line) network that uses Wingate (I turn off Wingate before installing Zone Alarm).

Anyone had a similar problem or know what the fix is?

Smile The Fix

1. Shutdown ZoneAlarm.
2. Open the Internet Logs directory (in 95/98 this will be "c:\windows\internet logs", in NT and 2000 it will be c:\\winnt\internet logs), where you will find a file called "iamdb.rdb" and a file named after your computer with the ".ldb" extension.
3. Delete both of these files.
4. Reboot your system.

ZoneAlarm will boot up again with a fresh database.

Message from Zonealarm tech support-- worked for me.
