Help!! Strange problem with links/popup windows
Just recently, i've been having this problem with my internet browser.
I am using Internet Explorer and windows xp by the way... My problem is, whenever I open a link that opens in a new window, it doesn't show up maximized. It is minimized in the start/taskbar area. When I click it to open it, it doesn't open. I would have to right click it, then select maximize in order to open it. I have to do this EVERY TIME!!! I've had a popup blocker, but this has never happened before. Can anyone help me? Thanks!!! |

You're close Hobey19, but I think you need to click "properties" after the right click on the IE icon, then select the "shorcut" tab (actually it should open there). Also, think you want the "normal" setting for full screen instead of Maximize.

yeah, i forgot the properties part, my bad. but when you have maximized it will open full screen all of the time i thought. when i leave it on normal, it opens the way it was closed the previous time. i don't know, but if you want it to be full, i would say go with maximized, but either one should fix your problem, doesn't matter.

For reasons known only to Microsoft programmers, IE deals with secondary windows differently than the original window. It will open the first (primary) windows according to the settings in the Properties window but it opens secondary windows to the size and position of the last secondary window closed..IF that secondary window was the last IE window closed and UNLESS that last secondary window had been enlarged by using the maximize button instead of the method below. Confused yet?
![]() At any rate, it may be that at some point in the past, the last IE window closed was a secondary window that had been minimized to the task bar...and IE is refusing to forget that. Try this: 1. Open a link in a new window 2. Close the first (primary) IE window (a critical step so don't overlook it) 3. After maximizing the second window to where you can work with it, see if the button between the minus (minimize) and X (close) buttons in the upper right-hand corner has one square or two in it. If it has two squares, leave as is; if there is one large square, click it to get the two small ones. 4. Then grab the edges and corners of the resulting half-size windows and stretch it to the size and position you want. 5. Then close it See if that resolves the problem. |
