I have 2 PCs sharing a modem for internet access. Both using Outlook Express, but 1st PC gets and sends office mail and 2nd PC gets mail from a server in Malaysia. The 2nd Pc wants to be able to read the mailboxes on the 1st PC as READ ONLY. Need to be able to see the replies as well as inbox so "leave on server" not appropriate solution.
How can I set up a shortcut on the desktop to view Outlook Express on PC1 from PC2 without disrupting the mailboxes on PC2? I'm looking for the command line on the shortcut, please. Win 98. |

You can use Message "Rules" and forward emails to the other pc. They WON'T be read only....Or the real old fashion way would be to print them out.

Thanks EzyStvy, but neither of those options are workable.

I don't think you can do this with OE. I scanned the registry for a direction to the path where the mail resides, but the only thing you get is a GUID identifying the indentity you are using.
I suggest using eudora. With eudora it works ok. Just point it to the folder where the mails are and you're off. The read only option should be set when sharing the folder with mail. |

Yes I know Eudora is heaps better. Calypso's pretty good too. But the requirement is for OE. Mosquito - if you've been using Eudora since the 1.4.2 days - you may have set up separate mailboxes on the desktop using a command line switch (how to do it is in the old version help files). That's the sort of switch I need.

More Food for Thought
When PC1 sends can't they just Carbon Copy PC2?
Setup the account info for PC1 on PC2's computer. Disable the Outgoing mail by changing it to SMTP.nothingelse |

Jill, I just found something interesting.
This article describes how you can set the location of the mail folders in OE5. http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q175/0/37.ASP You can create a new identity for the remote mail, and change the store root to the remote mail location. The user should switch identities then to access the remote mail. The read only option should be set when creating the share. [Edited by mosquito on 01-16-2001 at 10:30 AM] |
