Irritating Browsers

This irritant began a few days ago; I'm on DSL. Everytime I boot the PC and try to access the Net (using a router) regardless of the 3 browsers I try it always says page not found, etc. I switch to another browser and same thing. If I keep trying it will eventually connect to home page. I always empty the TIFs after every session and always have. If I leave the PC on all day the problem doesn't happen. Doesn't make any difference even if I power down the modem and router.

That sounds more like a DNS issue or a router issue to me. Update your router firmware and do a hard reset on it, redo the setup.

And SBC's DNS servers have been notoriously iffy in the past for me.

Check the forums at http://www.dslreports.com for proper DNS addresses, and specify em in your OS if you have to.

Is this a DSL specific problem? I have similar time-outs w/ my dial-up (SBC) all the time.

Are you using SygatePE Firewall by chance, and did you recently get the notice to update to the newly released version? If Yes, did you update it without uninstalling the old version? If Yes, it is the firewall, I did the update and after a few days I was having the same type of problems that finally blocked connection totally. Uninstalled the firewall completely and then installed the new version to get rid of the problem.

Have latest firmware. In Network Neighborhood I selected my ethernet card and changed the DNS configuration to "enable" and placed SBC as host and their domain #'s. Should this be done as it still works ok?

Still no help. I've noticed that if I let it time out 3 times, on the 4th try it will go to the homepage. Also makes no difference what I have the homepage set to. Even tried it without the router and using RASPPPOE and does same thing.
