i used to be able to perform searches on the internet from any old search engine. i downloaded the google toolbar and now every time i search the internet, whether it was from the toolbar or through google, or even yahoo i get a "page cannot be displayed" message. all other web sites load just fine, as long as i type the url or follow a link. why does this only happen when i perform a search? (to save some time, i will clarify that i have already checked my security settings, and privacy settings, and content settings.)

There are options in the Google Toolbar settings that affect searches, might want to check that out.

I have gone through the options and nothing changes, I then removed the toolbar and I still can't search on yahoo or google. Dogpile and excite work though.

If you are using WinXP, open a command prompt and type:
ipconfig /flushdns |

Well the dns resolver cache was flushed but that didn't resolve the issue. I still can't search on yahoo, open google or even ping google.

Check your hosts file - run Spybot and Ad-Aware.

I checked the hosts file first and the only entry in there was the 127.0.0.1 localhost and then used spybot and ad-Aware along with a few diffeerent virus scans. Nothing changed with the search on yahoo or connecting to google. That's when I put up the forst post for thid thread. What else can I try?

Hey thanks for all the help, I got the thing to work. I went back to microsoft's web site to look for updates and patches. One of the patches listed was an update for a fix posted earlier( 328310 ) that when installed could make other fixes stop working. After installing the update everything worked fine.
Thanks again for the feedback. |
