IE slow to find 1st website?

Win98se, I have a icon for my dial-up connection & icon for IE, when I am connected and I click on the IE icon it is slow to find my homepage, I have to exit and click the IE icon again, usually have to do this 3-4 times before it loads, this is just the first time, after that everything loads normal.
Any ideas? This is a new problem, I use google as my homepage. Thanks

How many items do you have running that access the Internet on connect to check for updates, etc.? Examples are antivirus updaters, Zone Alarm, clock and weather apps........
