Is this a good cheap host?

I'd like to apologize in advance if this question isn't appropriate for this group, but... what do you all think of this host?

http://www.worldscheapestwebhost.com

Have you used it before? It's one of those $29/year deals with a $29 set-up fee.

I think it's somehow affiliated with SearchKing but I'm not 100% sure.

Any thoughts? Can I really trust their claim that my site would be up 99% of the time? I want to promote my music, so that 70MB space would come in handy for my own MP3s. What would be the advantage of getting a more expensive host?

Also: this site says you can register your domain through them (for $25) but I know of registration places much cheaper. So, let's say I get my domain name from another service, and we'll say my domain name is www.whateverblahblahblah.com. My host would still "use" this domain name, if you know what I mean, right? It wouldn't just direct my whateverblahblahblah domain over to a domain that had "SearchKing" (or whatever) in the URL?

These are obviously newbie questions, right? ; )

Anyway, thank you all! And if this is an inappropriate question, let me know where else I can go for info. (I've tried to find info on the web but search engines lead me only to commercial sites.)

Thanks!
Rob

Yeah, they are a part of SearchKing which unsuccessfully sued Google for lowering their page rank because they would basically spam Google's search engine with it's portals.

Most hosts do claim 99% uptime but few actually guarantee it.

The bad is:
-they are affiliated with SearchKing
-charge a setup fee
-not all that cheap if you include the setup fee

The good is that:
-they are cheap
-offer a 30 day money back guarantee

Don't let them register your domain name, go to GoDaddy and register it for $7.95/yr for the .com.

OK, this is promising, and I appreciate the response.

Hey, do you know of anyone cheaper? I'm open to suggestions.

Oh, and thanks for the tip about where to go for domain name registration!

Thanks,
Rob

OneandOne is the largest host in Europe and is probably trying to make some inroads here in the US. Apparently all of their servers are in Germany. From what I have read they are also very slow (2-5 days) to respond to any support. From their own support page:

How about support?
Any paid service of 1&1 comes with free 1&1 Express Support by Phone, Chat, or e-mail. However as the Professional Package promotion is completely free of charge, we had to limit the support to be handled via e-mail. Feel free to send us as many e-mails as it takes to make and keep you a happy user. You will get an answer typically in the same or the next working day.
I have also seen that they have some hidden charges. So anyway.

It seems like Statica had posted about a cheap host awhile back that was about $3.95 a month. I can't remember the name though.

www.8-95.com is the cheap host. They are affiliated to www.dixiesys.com
Have been with dixiesys for the past .. hmm 3 yrs or so I think, and have been very satisfied. The difference between dixiesys and 8-95 seems to be in the uptime guarantee.

You have to realize that eventally even the best hosts have problems that may or may not be in their control, that is the nature of the beast. I would strongly recommend paying a reasonable amount more to at least get yourself a host that has a good reputation of customer service. No amount of bandwidth and HDD space will replace that. From that standpoint I've nothing but good things to say about dixiesys and hostmatters.com.

it is very hard to beat Total Choice Web Hosting

300MB Disc Space
5.5GB monthly Bandwidth

for $4.00/month

Domain Registration is $10.95/yr

Customer Support is amazing. Check the forums. I just started with them and am very satisfied so far.
