Mozilla or Opera. I have been using Mozilla Firebird beta for quite awhile and like it alot. Its as fast as Opera,(if not, better get a milli-second timer to find out). Just d/l'd Opera 7.23 and registered it. It has many nice features and is fast also. I believe you will like either browser over IE. Carl |

The biggest advantage IE has over the others is compatibility with web pages. A large portion of designers don't even test pages in anything but IE. So there will be some things that won't work because of this. In particular, javascript and some CSS2.

Yup, I use MyIE2 myself. It is basically an IE shell replacement but it gives you a lot of other goodies too.
And its free! www.myie2.com |

I have also been using the Mozilla Firebird beta for a while, and it is great. Lots of extensions available to give you added features.
But unfortunately there still are sites that require IE. I let whoever is in charge of these know in no uncertain terms what I think about their inability to code platform- and browser-neutral pages whenever I come across a page that requires IE. |

Ah yes, the fine art of web design. There is always that balance between cutting edge and compatibility.
The main problem is that often times not a lot of testing is done on the site. The page is tested using IE because that is what the designer uses and at his resolution. Then you have to figure out how far back you want to support in browsers. Up until about a year or so ago, I would try to make pages that would work in NS 4.7. Not any reason to do that nowadays but still a handful of people using it. |

It's not as if I am using ancient browsers. A lot of problems come from sites that have VBScript, which only IE can deal with. I don't get it, as I doubt there is a whole lot that can't be done in JavaScript, necessitating VB. I understand that companies will use what they have, and if that is IIS and ASP under Windows then pages are probably going to be tuned for IE. I will at least let them know that there is more to the universe than M$ products, though.
