both, as far as I know
if you have a domain, then you are the host of the web site

im sure ive seen some domain register places on the net that redirect the domain name to a site. most people just buy hosting for the actual domain tho

it depends on your host. if the host allows it, then yes. alot of people do that, the only problem is, is that when you go to the page redirection, it shows the name of the address you are at (eg geocities) which may confuse people

no, whenever you have page redirection, it ends up directing you to the page that is on the end of the chain, and shows that address. it is mainly used for people who want to buy whatever.com, .net, .org, .edu etc, so that no matter what people type in it ends up with them

You can mask the web address when you forward visitors to your site. For example:

if you go to www.jamescpa.biz, it re-directs you to www.picawards.com. But, it doesn't show up as picawards. It still says jamescpa.biz.

Depending on where you get your domain, some places allow you to mask the real host buy using frames. Look at www.APaddedRoom.com It's hosted at Tripod, but the address bar will always show www.APaddedRoom.com

Masking should work fine with geocities.

I don't know what it's called. Full web address? Anyways, I'm not sure if I understood the question. If you own namehere.com, then you own every combination of that name. Anything from forum.namehere.com to www.namehere.com/whatever

ye you just create a new folder on the site. but if you want like forum.namehere.com you may need a host that gives you subdomains
