Has anyone used this service? I'm looking into getting it. And would like as much info as possible. This is the only other option I have in my area besides dial up. Cable company has no clue to when it will be available here. As I understand they use a usb modem,do I need a router or not and can I use more than 1 pc with it?
Thanks

I checked into it and found out you still have to have dialup for out going.
The 2-way satelite is very $$$$$$$$ Carl |

If you aren't an online gamer, Starband (Dish Network) is the answer. DirecPC has had too many issues. It uses a USB "modem" and you can share it with software.

Carl I know the hardware is $$$$$ but I've got a work around
on that issue. I can't tell what the cost of service is for the two way sat or is the same if they provide isp? Also they offer pci modems which would be best? I will look into the others. Thanks |

Starband 2 way is $70 a month - $100 a month including the "Dish Top 150" TV package - and it's USB *only* through Dish retailers unless you get it through Radio Shack, where you have to buy a Compaq computer already set up with 2 PCI cards. This price includes MSN.

MSN, plus Crappaq, plus bad pings = bad news
If you get satellite, get two way. We had quite a few one way customers who were using us for uploads at the ISP I used to work for, and they had nothing but problems. Xayd |

You don't have to buy the Crappaq if you get it from a Dish Network retailer - just the USB "modem". It's still MSN though.

GLC, I know that I don't have to buy the compac. And the last thing I want is another box pc. I'm really not to sure about the MSN. I'm sure it great service but I still have that ten foot pole feeling about it! I have used msn messenger service and its get to busy at times also logging into hotmail can be a pain. But I'm still thinking about it!
