DSL Speed Test

I'm interested in doing a speed test for my DSL and seeing if I'm getting the fullest out of my connection.

Does anybody know of any sites or programs that would allow me to do this?

TIA

While there, do the tweak test as well.

Thanks for both links guys.

Sarge, I ran the tweak test, and I'm looking through the FAQ that was linked to on the page that I got after completing the test, but I have no clue about what to do with these tweaks. Could you give me a few pointers?

bigandy,
What results did you get from the tweak test? RWIN settings, etc?

Download DrTCP from the tweak test page and it will help you tweak your DSL.

Kubie, I downloaded DrTCP, but I'm still clueless (forgive me, I'm an idiot)

First, for connection, do I put "normal" or "WinXPppoe" or what.

For normal, this is what I get:
Receive Window (RWIN): 64800
Window Scaling: off
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF
RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1440
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 113
-------------------------------------------------
Actual data bytes sent: 160400
Actual data packets: 112
Max packet sent (MTU): 1480
Max packet recd (MTU): 1480
Retransmitted data packets: 10
sacks you sent: 28
pushed data pkts: 6
data transmit time: 1.150 secs
our max idletime: 134.5 ms
transfer rate: 85932 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 687 kbits/sec
transfer efficiency: 91%

For WinXPppoe, this is what I get:
Receive Window (RWIN): 64800
Window Scaling: off
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: OFF
RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1440
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 113
---------------------------------------
Actual data bytes sent: 160400
Actual data packets: 112
Max packet sent (MTU): 1480
Max packet recd (MTU): 1480
Retransmitted data packets: 10
sacks you sent: 28
pushed data pkts: 6
data transmit time: 1.150 secs
our max idletime: 134.5 ms
transfer rate: 85932 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 687 kbits/sec
transfer efficiency: 91%

TIA

Just for your info, if ya use a proxie or AdSubtract disable it before doing any testing there because it won't be the right #'s. but they tell you that if you read all the before you run the test stuff.

bigandy,

PPPOE cause you have SBC, right?
After you ran the tweak test, at the bottom of the screen where you d/l'd DrTCP, there should have been suggestions for you to do. Like what your rwin should be etc. Were there any triangles with an exclamation mark in them?

Carl

Change the RWIN to 37752 for starters and the MSS to 1492.

Sorry for not posting back for so long.

Sarge, I changed the RWIN to 37752, but where exactly would I find and change the MSS number?

Kubie, no, there where not any of the triangles.

I went through the FAQ like you suggested Kubie, and I think I understand most of the settings now.

Thanks for the link Chas, I'll check that site out a little more in-depth later on.

Thank you guys!
