IE6 giving me skull cramps

Ok, this one is weird..... when I launch IE I'm getting "page cannot be displayed" and good ol "cannot find server or DNS error".....very standard, right? No internet connection is what I thought......WRONG!
Here's the deal: my email and MSN chat work fine.....ok, so I did an IE repair tool run-through.....nothing....hmmmmm
Now this is the interesting part: right now, i'm using the windows explorer pane to type this...Why is it that I can use the web just fine by right-clicking My Computer and using the drop-down for IE but can't open it the regular way????

This is the best pickle I ever got myself into.......

hello Sport...Have you run AdAware and Spybot? What about a virus check? They may not be the cause but it doesn't hurt either. Your problem may be solved with the lsp fix. You can get it here here.

Trend Micro has a good free online scan. Hope this helps.

hi i seem to have the same problem i.e. i just cannot open IE.

if i go to my computer>right click>internet explorer then there is no problem, but if i double click on the icon on the desktop -- there is no response

i tried the lsp fix but it does not work. read somewhere that the winsock2 may be corrupted.

have run adaware, spyboot and trend pccillin but everything comes up negative

you call microsoft and the guys want you to fleece you first and then " maybe " solve your problem.

can anyone help me with this one ????

I'm not real clear on how you get to Internet Explorer by right clicking on My Computer but...

Maybe the shortcut on the desktop just got corrupted somehow. Make a new shortcut to IE (go to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE," right click on iexplore.exe, go to Send To, click on Desktop) then delete the old and see if that works.

You might also want to try going into add/remove programs and using IE's own repair tool
