Connecting to the net on a new computer

I'm getting a new computer in a few weeks and the first thing I'll want to do is connect to the net, is it just as simple as using the internet connection wizard? I'll be connecting with a cable internet connection.

with my cable modem it jus plugged in the ethernet and i was connected right away, thats in xp.
