Question Domain name registering

If you register with, say, godaddy.com, can you change the IP address that the domain name you register with at any time?

ie, you register mysite.com with the initial IP of 192.168.2.1, and a month later, could you change it to say 192.168.54.9? (I'm using funny numbers as an example).

The registar doesn't care or even know what your IP address is. All it really cares about is what DNS server you are using to resolve the name to an IP address. If you are changing hosts, then all you really need to do is change the nameserver entries at the registar. If you have your own nameservers, then all you have to do is to change the record in them and don't need to change anything at the registar.

i've never used godaddy, but most registrars allow you to change at anytime. i don't see why they'd be any different.

If someone is hosting your site for you and you change hosts, then you would have to go to GoDaddy and change the nameservers for the domain. That will take 24-72 hours for the changes to take effect. If you are hosting your own site using your own nameservers, just make the changes in your DNS server and they will take effect right away, no need to go to GoDaddy.
