hiding your internet use at work

speaking hypothetically...is it possible to hide your internet usage at work. warnings are sometimes given that explain how your email and internet surfing are being monitored. is there anyway to avoid this monitoring.

Depends on what your place of employment uses to monitor net use.

To be on the safe side, if your place of employment has internet polices, it is usually a good idea to abide by them (but with some exceptions, of course).

The real question is how much of a risk you are willing to take. With the monitoring programs and protocols out there now, its virtually impossible to "hide" your browsing techniques. Heck, in an age where even ISPs have been shown to log extensively, are you sure you can trust the advice of anyone who says that "just clear your cache" and yet sleep easy at night?

Not really... Everything comes and goes thru other computers, so even clearing your system out does nothing to clean your tracks on the servers and the like.

Besides, it's not worth it. Keep the job and surf at home.

Also, are you aware that in most cases, if you have contact from your job computer to your home computer, then your home computer is subject to confication if there is a problem at work?!!

When I'm at work I just surf respected sites, such as pcmech.com , cnn.com, weather.com during my breaks this way I know I won't lose my job. I never check my personal email at work, for the main reason I don't want them to be able to say they have they right to read it if they have some kind of snooping program, I just wait to get home to do this.

indeed

I'm with strider on this one

no point in risking losing your job over something as tedious as web surfing.

at least get sacked for something worthwhile, being drunk or ..... i'm joking, i'll leave it at that lol.

seriously though, and being a manager myself, you want your team working not surfing, they are paid to work.

having said that, on breaks you should be able to surf it, but responsibly, news, sports, weather etc should be ok, just be sensible, give them no reason to get annoyed

Assuming your employer is using some kind of monitoring software, you would have to circumvent it yourself either by hacking it or disabling it, and this forum will not tell you how to do this.

If you have a problem with your employer, you should talk about it with your employer.

No point in me replying. I don't think it can be said any better than that.
