Hi all,
Has anyone else had this problem and if so what is the fix? I am running Windows XP Home and have 3 Identities set up in Outlook Express. I can switch between them fine for hours....sometimes days and everything works fine, but then every now and then when I try to switch Identities the program closes and as it is supposed to retart with the new Identity......It don't. Then you can try to start the program all day long by any means....start menu....desktop icon.....finding the actual program and clicking it......but the only thing that happens is you get an hourglass for about 3-4 seconds then it goes away. To get the program to work again all I have to do is reboot, but what a screwwy solution. Then It goes alright for a while, even up to a couples days before it happens again. So, this last time it happened I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL first before I tryed to start the program so that I could watch and see it it actually starts and stops, but it doesn't even start. Just the hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing. Any help would be great, Thanks, Brian |

The next time it happens, do a Cntl. Atl. Del again and see if it shows one running. Occassionally shen I start my TV viewer it does the same thing. Cntl. Alt. Del shows one running. I click to end and then it starts up without any problems.

What happens if you log off the current identity first and restart the program instead of trying to fast switch?
Might be time to clean out the junk and do folder maintenance - huge inboxes can cause all kinds of problems. |

I'm not sure if I were to do it that way every time it might never happen...but most of the time it doesn't happen anyway. Point is I shouldn't have to do it that way so something must be wrong. It's hard to pin down, because once it happens I can't even start the program to try other things. I have to reboot and then everythings fine anyway.
And it's not the inbox thing, because it's a month old computer and the inboxs and trash folders are all empty. I'm stumped. I saw on another forum another guy having the same problem, but no good suggestions for him either. Thanks for the input though. |

I have the same problem, I posted a similar question a while back with no real success. I also had a look on the Microsoft site and there is some reference to vaguely similar OE problems but nothing identical. Let me know if you have any success.

I have run into the same problem. Even on a freshly installed PC with all of the updates. I had to Ctrl-alt-delete and close the process msimn.exe....I think that was the file or something similar...and then reopen Outlook express. Sorry...I'm not at that PC so I don't know the exact name of the process but it is something like that.
