weird problem
im trying to get the internet up and running on a friends computer but everytime i connect, about 5 minutes later, i get a message saying that a HOST error occured and its a regular win xp error message. so i click ok and it sends and then a new message comes up saying that there was a problem issued by the NT Administrator/system and the computer needs to restart. there is a counter from about 30 seconds and you cant stop it from restarting. the weird thing is that AOL works fine. dont know what it could be... please help.

Sounds like the Blaster worm. Instructions on how to deal with it are on this Symantec page.

Definately do a virus scan. A friend had the same problem and sure enough there were a few viruses there. Cleaning them up got rid of the problem

ok i did a few virus scans and found nothing. the internet works with aol but not other internet providers.the error said there was a HOST win32 error and the message that shuts the computer down says its an RPC service was terminated unexpectedly and the computer must restart. could there be something in Servvices thats turn to dissabled or manual and not on automatic? the Event ID in windows log is 7031 and it says its from Source:service control manager.

This error can be attributed to a lot of things from print spooler problems to other services shutting down unexpectedly, etc.
Post the exact error messages and event IDword for word. I have to agree though, it sounds very blaster worm. |
