Talking The Best Darn Popup And Ad Banner Blocker There Is!

I'm serious, this thing is awesome! It has differen security levels you can load, and since you set it up to run through a proxy port, it does not mess with anything else on your computer exept for your web browser. Since I have had this thing, I don't have to see anything that I don't want to. I can go to all kinds of ad supported sites, and see no banners or popups whatsoever. I can even go to a porn supported site if they have something I want to download, and I see nothing! It's called Proxomitron. You can get it here: http://www.spamblocked.com/proxomitron/

It sounds like a good program but I am wondering how much the filter slows down Web surfing since I read that Proxomitron works as a proxy server and fetches the content of your requested web site before it passes the information back to your browser. Seems to me that would take extra time like at least 5 seconds or more. Many of us are still on 56K modems and cannot stand to have our surf speed slowed for even a second. In fact, I'm still using IE 5.5 because IE6 and IE5 are too slow.

Well, the guy who told me about it lives out in the boonies and is running his connection on a line that is split between two phone numbers, which only allows him to connect at 28k speeds, maybe a little over 30k on a good day. He felt like it sped his up a little because IE didn't have to load the popup crap. It's something to try. You could also be selective about when you use it. If it slows you down, just use it only when you are going to a site that you think might be a problem. I prefer to have it on all the time just in case, since you never realy know when you're going to run into something.

Just a thought - MS is planning to release the MSIE6.0 SP2 with an integrated pop up blocker. I doubt that might happen, though - everyone will learn how to go around it and the pop ups will become more intrusive .

I hate those popups that fill up the entire screen. Like you wouldn't know how to alt+F4. and the ones that have clickie things as the close button. The ones that look like window's errors. Well, I hate all of them.

Anyways, that thing is working pretty well. I usually go to sites w/tons of popups, but now they're all gone : )
