Ok I think I just figured it out, so I changed my password. I tried it again using explorer to up load the file to my site. This time I put the folder in front of the log folder(it was there already from the host I guess). Went into my account and the directory showed up. Still don't know if this will work. If this doesn't work then I will post back again.

God I really hope this works.

I tried wise FTP and FTP voyager and explorer browser. The directory shows up in my account manager but all I get is the 403.

Can you guys try uploading something anything. I have a test folder I uploaded which has a flash and HTML file in it.

You can delete add whatever you want to the site(no porn) I just want to see what the heck is wrong. I give up.

The link in the first post goes to the sign in page.

That gets you into my account click on the contract and then click on the web access link on the left side. This brings you to the FTP account set up.

There is two there when I first started it was just the top(1st) one I added the second one with the test folder(directory). Feel free to delete it or add a new one or fix the test one or whatever I just want to see if this will work.

Send a message via AIM to nocturnx
If you happen to be using windows XP, it has built in ftp software that works well. Its in control panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services.

glc did it show up when you check the site. www.glenncowelding.com ?

You uploaded the squadcar jpeg right. Shouldn't it show up on my site.

I still get a 403 error.

I can get the files uploaded on via ftp but the problem is when you check the site you get 403 error.

Which from a search is:

.........................................................
The Apache Web server allows site managers to override the standard error page which is served for specific errors by number.

This error, 403 access forbidden, means that a request for a "bare" directory path has been made, no default directory index page is present and the site manager does not want a file listing displayed in its place.
.........................................................

I have tried emailing the host provider but thay still haven't got back to me.

Well I was able to log into your site using FTP. What you have that is spewing errors is you had an .htacess fill in the directory test123. I had it renamed to .htaccess.bak
now try to go to www.glenncowelding.com/test123 it loads up the index.html file.

The reason for your 403 error - as I mentioned above in my previous post is -
To set up your website start with an index.* file as your start page. For example, I just uploaded a sample index.html file so now you may view www.glenncowelding.com
This could be index.php, index.asp .. anything that you desire - in keeping with your choice of website coding.
This is a "safety feature" so to speak, it disallows people from getting a directory listing of your directory even if you forget to load up an index.* page

I would urge you to read documentation on .htacess documents and how to correctly use them.

now before you proceed with any more website coding, please remember to change your password to something strong! and post a message here when you are done so that we can clean out your username and passwords from your posts

Addendum - already editted out your info check your PM.

Ok I just changed my password.

I am a newbie so this is totally new to me.

Thanks everyone for the help especially Statica.

So how would I get the photo glc uploaded to show up?

I am confused.

How do you create a website page structure?

What are some good sites to read up on .htacess documents?

Consider your website contents a book with page numbers that are not visible to anyone with a web browser. Now there may be pages and pages of text and pictures in the book, but without the table of contents or a guide to tell the reader where the information is located there is no way to get to it.

That is where the index.html (let's assume you are going to use plain ole HTML to do up your website) file comes into play. It's the all-important table of contents to your book. When a visitor comes to your site by typing out www.domain.com , 1&1 sends them the index.html file. From here, you can create links to your other html pages or have your images and scripts etc etc. Without the index.html page, now the user has to know exactly what file he/she is looking for.

For example, if GLC loaded up the picture car.jpg in the directory test123; then everyone needs to have prior knowledge of that filename and directory. In that case, they would just type www.domain.com/test123/car.jpg however, if they didnt know that car.jpg was sent, then any attempts to go to www.domain.com/test123/ would cause them to load up the index.html file in that particular directory.

As I said, this is a setting that is enabled by all competing system administrators to prevent people from seeing all the files you have on your webspace.

To create a website structure - well you start with the index.html page, then have information and links to other pages, like purchase.html contact.html and so forth

I would strongly suggest you read some online sources on basic website building before you begin. It isnt that complicated. Google out some tutorials.

for .htaccess - from the horse's mouth - http://httpd.apache.org/docs/howto/htaccess.html
