New Domain Name
I just bought a new domain name from GoDaddy. Now that I have it I want to point it to my server. Where and how would I go about doing this.
The only thing I see is the nameserver, but that doesn't seem to be the right thing. Thanks in advance

You don't point your domain name at your server. You point it at your nameserver. Your nameserver resolves the IP address to the domain name.

Well what would be the nameserver if I am running it on one of my own servers, because it doesn't allow me to put in my IP.

You will have to have a nameserver. If your ISP doesn't provide one (they generally do if you have a business account with a fixed IP address), use theirs. You will have get them to make the DNS entries for you. If not, you can use Dynamic DNS for your nameservers.

I checked with my ISP, and they said that they use automatic for the DFCP settings. Would this make a difference. If not, is their any other way to do it besides paying $20 for custom DNS?
Thanks again |

By DFCP, I am assuming that you mean DHCP. That is only how your ISP assigns you an IP address and has nothing at all to do with nameservers. You might ask them about running a webserver. If you have a dynamic IP address, which you do if you are using DHCP, then you can use the free service. The only difference will be that your site would be accessed by your_domainname.dyndns.org , instead of domainname.com .
You might check some of the others here I assume that you are either on a Cable or DSL connection, not dialup. Keep in mind that most ISP's frown upon you running a webserver and you could lose your account with them. |

Do it the easy way. Pay Godaddy $3.95 a month for a basic webhosting account and let THEM worry about all the issues that you will encounter running a server.
