Problem getting to Mail sites

I am having problems connecting to mail sites - like hotmail, yahoo mail, etc. I just got a new laptop and inserted it into my network that i have setup - I have a DLINK 624 router with a desktop computer and another laptop already connected to it ( i have the DLINK wireless extreme G card for both laptops)- I dont have any problems connecting to these mail sites with them. It is just with this new laptop. Any suggestions on what i should look at?

If it is just those few sites that do not work, but all else works as far as internet pages loading OK, then I would think it may be the Internet settings under privacy or security that may be blocking those few sites.. I would take the other laptop that I know works and just browse thru those settings and match them up on the new laptop. The other thing that comes to mind is to try a different browser, and in fact I'm asuming your using Microsoft's Intrenet Explorer here...

Yes, especially check under security and privacy, then clear temp internet files. Being that all else works, there is not much else that would cause this problem, obviously your network settings are all good since you can surf the internet, but just not those paricular sites...

On my desktop, I do not have any virus software on it. Or any security programs running on my computer.

Thats as much insight as I can think of, so hopefully someone else will read this that is more knowledgable about hotmail and yahoo. I don't use those sites so I really don't know about them. Would be interesting to either try your old router back or try a temporary direct connect to your broadband modem to the laptop to see if you can pinpoint the trouble to the router..

I called Dlink and got on with TECH support and they said to change a MTU setting and that fixed it. He was foreign so i could not understand him. What is an MTU setting?

Hello:
Glad to hear you got someone that cound point you to fix it.. MTU is, I think, (Maximum Transmission Units). Something to do with the size of the data packets that can be sent thru the pipe. I had same problem with my router and email, but I never occured to me that the MTU setting would apply to web based email sites. Later on in the Linksys firmware versions they made it automatically set the MTU to 1492 as soon as you choose PPPOE, because it is a known problem. That is why I suggested bypassing the router so you could narow down where the problem is being caused. Glad to hear all is well, now on to the next case of trouble...
