Hi all,
Just a quick question. I looked through all my books and searched the database here and couldn't find an answer, so I guess I'll just ask if anyone knows. Is there a limit on the size of files you can send through an email? I thought somewhere I heard attachments were limited to like 1Meg or so but I can't find anything about it anywhere now. Any help here?

I think the file limit depends on the email provider. I think yahoo has a 2 or 5 MB cap. I know yahoo has a cap on the file size but it's been a while since I used my account with them so I don't know what is their exact file limit.

So would it be different since my email account is with my monthly-paid ISP provider? Or its just one of those "call the ISP and find out" kind of things?

Yep, it's a "call the ISP and find out" kind of thing.

It depends on both your ISP *and* the other person's ISP. Believe it or not, but AOHell is one of the most forgiving out there - they allow up to 16mb I believe. I think Earthlink shuts off the send at about 700kb but I've received over 3mb before.

It depends upon 2 things, your sender and the receiver. Your ISP may allow you to send a file of any size but the receiver may not be able to receive a file of any size. Several other factors come into play. If someone is using a POP server and haven't checked their email in awhile, then their mailbox could be too full to accept a large attachment.
As a general rule, never send a file larger than 1Mb without asking first. |
