Boom newbie needs help with java

Ok first of all i am in Iraq so i have limited internet capablities. My issue is that I loaded Java Runtime 1.4.2 on to my computer then i loaded Java Runtime 1.5.0 beta over the top of it as instructed by Java. I get on to the web and go to AKO instant messenger. The Java cup appears and then the Java certificate appears and i click yes to allow it. the Java cup stays in the upper left hand corner of the window for about 2 or 3 minutes then it turns in to a RED "X" then goes no farther afterwards. I have gone to all sorts of extremes to try and fix the problem. I've reloaded Windows 2000 to unistalling to reinstalling Java. All with no luck. Please help before my computer meets a untimely death.

P.S. Please email all replys to shane.carruth@us.army.mil

can you still get java applets like yahoo games to work? what does it say when you go to get java at java.com?

if the army instant messenger does not require java 1.5 beta (which i doubt it does), then i would not bother with it.

first, make sure you have windows 2000 service pack 3. to check, hold down the windows key and press the break key. the break key is on the upper right of standard desktop keyboards. it depends on laptops. or, alternatively, right click on my computer on the desktop and press properties. it should list system: windows 2000 sp3 (or higher). java runtime requires windows 2000 sp3 or higher.

this is probably not the case, so next, try uninstalling all java things from add/remove programs. then get the latest stable java runtime.

hopefully, someone more knowledgable than i will come around to help you.

God Bless
