Spyware? Pop Up Madness

My brother's computer is infested with pop ups. If you leave the computer alone for a long period of time (6 hours or more), when you come back, the screen is filled with them. When he uses Internet Explorer, he gets slammed by pop ups.

Our computers are nearly identical except he runs Windows 2000 and I run XP. I have zero pop up problems.

He also has a CD burner, and after I installed it, he claims that's when the pop ups started. It is a HiVal CD burner with Nero Express software.

He runs anti spyware software like me, and it clears off a lot, but he still has the problem. I found a list of programs in the Task Manager. Do any of these seem suspicious? I only listed the ones that I didn't recognize:

KlwTj.exe
jpmfcw4c.exe
WZQLPICK.exe
wcmdmgr.exe
GameChannel.exe
Apropos.exe
jusched.exe
dpi.exe
inCD.exe
qttask.exe
WinMgmt.exe
regsvc.exe

. . .

inCD.exe is part of Nero, and I think GameChannel is something that he uses for Shockwave games (WildTangent is related to it, perhaps?). If so, that's legit.

sounds like the messenger service exploit. Go to the link below and DL/Install/Run "Shoot The Messenger."

Try using Hijackthis and CWshredder as well as what you are probably already running like Spybot and Adaware.

PanchoC,

Did he try IE6? I have that, but I also downloaded Yahoo companion as well, and it had a pop-up blocker that works really good. It is on it's own (Yahoo) toolbar. You can also turn it off and on. I always leave mine on. I love it, and no more pop-ups. There may be a few that get through when you first start to use it but after that it catches all of them. Atleast so far it has, and it stopped just over 500 so far. I wouldn't be without it now.

That thing has viruses and trojans running. Go to housecall.trendmicro.com and get a free online scan.
