MSN Messenger emails - open in IE...
Hi
Sorry if this is the wrong forum (I wasn't sure either InternetWWW or Software), thought it would get more relevant reads here Anyway Point is. When I get an email notification through MSN Messenger it always opens in Internet Explorer even though my default is Mozilla Any way to change this so that the hotmail emails open in Mozilla? I'm thinking no, to be honest, because the way I see it MSN is passing the URL straight to IE rather than to the OS when I click on the notification box Any ideas anyway? :P Thanks Jim [edit]Remouved speeling mistook:P[/edit]

you could try using another msn client like
dmsn; http://www.dmsn.nl/ or trillian; http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ Last edited by corosus; 03-01-2004 at 01:36 PM. |

i am wondering the same question that fatboyjim is. i am using MYIE2 browser and i am frustrated when msn messenger opens an IE window with my e-mails. it seems like there would be a way to change the default browser to the browser you use. i made myie2 my default browser but msn messenger still opened up an IE window. i looked through the registry and couldn't find anything. if anyone knows where to look or what to change in the registry let me know. thanks, devin

I get the same happening when I clcik on a URL in a MS HTML help (.CHM) file. This has spurred me to find out what's going on, so I'll track it in Regmon, and post back if I find anything which can be changed in the registry.
I can see a lawsuit looming here if I can't... |

I emailed MSN Messenger support and got a reply yesterday. They said it was a good idea and would be passed on to those who deal with these things... seemed like a blanket response to me.
Oh well, Jim |

I've checked re. CHM files - doesn't go near "default browser", but straight to "Microsoft Internet Controls", and guess what - leads straight on to IE module entries, and IE loads. Haven't checked Messenger, but I'll bet it's the same.
