I just experianced a power failure in my naborhood area. I have a surge protector for my computer, and I am connected to the Internet through Road Runner Cable Service. The computer that I am typing on is on the same network as the computer that I am experianing problems with. My other computer is having trouble connecting to the internet. It says that a "network cable is unpluged" even though I have tried pluging two different cables in. When I start up my computer, Windows tells me that I have recovered from a serious system error and gives me this error message:
"BCCode : a BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 00000000 BCP4 : 804E9E13 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 256_1" I already checked my hardware configuration in device manager and it says that my onboard network card is fine. I reinstalled my network drivers as well, and I still recieve the same error. Finally, I did two system restores, from two different times and I am sitll experiancing the problem. Could someone please help me re-connect to the internet? Last edited by Zac3010; 03-07-2004 at 10:36 AM. |

Try by-passing the router and connecting straight into comp and see if you still have this problem.

I just discovered this is a crosspost - please don't do that, it makes it hard to follow.
Combining both threads and reading everything, I now feel that your onboard network adapter is blown. Go buy a card. I'm going to close your other thread in System Security. |

Is there anyway that I could protect my PCI Lan card once I get it?

Not really - but they are dirt cheap, less than 10 bucks if you look around. I keep several in my car, they are high replacement items. Don't forget to turn off the onboard adapter in the bios. If this fixes it, you have a warranty claim for your motherboard if you choose.

Wow, thanks. Last time I bought a PCI one they were around 20 to 15, and I was pissed in the first place that I had to use one of my slots for something that I already had onboard, but for 4 bucks, how can you go wrong. I like your idea, I think I might order 4 or 5 of them. Thanks

Today's price is $4.50 plus $4 shipping - still dirt cheap and the card has decent reviews.

Your motherboard may still be on warranty.

What model is it and how old is it? The paperwork that came in the box should tell you how long the warranty is and how to file a claim, if not, the manufacturer's website should have that information.

Yes, but you have to send the old one in first - if the only problem is a bad onboard nic, I'd prolly just deal with putting a card in if you can't have any downtime.
