Another Apache Home Server Domain name problem!
I have my web server set up and I am able to access it by using My IP address, but I would like to use my domain name Example(www.myname.com) instead.
I have my domain name registered with Godaddy.com and its parked at there parking nameserver, The only thing I can change is the nameserver. I was expecting they would ask for my IP address and point my domain name to that, I am a beginner at this so I am getting confused Do I need to set my IP address up with a DNS or can I do that with my server at home? Do I need Godaddy.com to release my Domain name from their parked spot and do something on my end with my server???? Sheesh somebody needs to straighten me out I am confused Again all I want is my Domain name to connect to my IP address. Thanks in advance Channon |

You can't point your domain to your computer's IP address at the registar. You can only point it to a nameserver. If you have a fixed IP address, contact your ISP and see if they can make an entry in their nameservers for you. If you have a dynamic IP address, you will have to use will have to use someone like DynDNS as your nameserver.
You should be aware though that having running a webserver runs against the AUP of most ISP's and they can cancel your account. |
