redirecting from one website to another?

Hello all.

I have a website (hosted by ipowerweb). For this I pay around $100 a year.

I've purchesed another .com which I want to use in the future (i want to change my business name in the future, but not now....but i wanted to get the name while it was still available).

At the moment I've only payed 5.95 for the .com.

My question is:.....is there a way to make people who type in my new .com adress automatically get re-directed to my present .com?.....

.....obviously i could pay the 100$ per year for the new one and do it that way, but is there a cheaper way?

Is there an organization who runs the .com's?.......could i ask them to do the re-direct (hopefully for less then $100 per year).

I apologize in advance if i've said something stoopid, but i'm no internet expert (as is patently obvious!)

many thanks

Jazzy

I take it you have no hosting for the new domain name?

exactly! Are there any ways to do this on the cheap, or will i have to fork out the 100$ a year, just to get a re-direct?

You'll need DNS servers to point the new domain somewhere. Your host should be able to do this, just tell them to point the new domain to your current IP.

Apache can do the rest with mod_rewrite, for free .

do you have cpanel on you current domain? if so you can park a domain to your current site, providing you have set the nameservers on the domain you bought to the nameservers of your current hosting.

GoDaddy and some of the other registars will forward one domain to another, in essence park it for you for free.
