Cable modem not working through ethernet?

Hey guys

I recently moved out of my parents house *Phew*, and got cable internet hooked up down at my apartment, and now that I've moved, it will not hook up through ethernet, but it works fine through usb, just yesterday it worked fine at my parents house with ethernet, and I havent changed anything since then. The cable guy couldn't figure it out I guess, or he just gave up.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

Can you describe the setup exactly? What is the difference between your house and your parents' house? Are you using the same computer in each place or different computers? Is there a router involved?

its exactly the same, except a different modem, cause they took the old one, and gave me a new 'better' one i guess.. There was a router at my parent's house, but before the router there wasn't and it worked fine, and i tried using the router here aswell, but it didn't make a difference

and the only other thing on the router is my Xbox, for xbox live

Have you tried powering down or unplugging the modem and powering back up so it will detect? What brand of modem and model number?
