Problems with Clicking Links

I was wondering if anyone can help me. When I try to click a link either in Internet Explorer or Outlook Express that should open in a new window, the new window opens but nothing happens. Also, when I try to download anything from the Microsoft Widows Update site, it says it preparing to download and then nothing happens. I need help!

Corey

Do you have a firewall enabled on your system or are you using any kind of Pop Up stopper?

Nope...Neither. I have Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware, and Spybot. That is all. I do not have any pop-up blockers. I have a comcast cable modem,

Let me guess, your OS isn't up to date cuz you can't get a download from Windows Update? What OS are you using?

I am using Windows 98SE. I had a person I know who works on computers reformat my computer about 3-4 weeks ago and it was working fine after we loaded 98se. Now this morning it would not let me use links or windows update!

glc has often made mention of problems using 98se with IE6. Try doing a repair to IE6 by going into Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel, find MS Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and click on the Add/Remove button. A window will come up giving you the option to repair it. Try that and see if it helps. If not, you may want to remove IE6 and go back to a previous version.
