Is this a good broadband deal?

Hello all,
I've just recently saw a broadband deal for 39.95 usd for a 3 Mbs up stream and 256 kbps down stream provided by charter communications here in LA. I was wondering if this is a good deal and if Charter Communications is a good company to run with?

Umm... do you mean 3 down and 256 up, cuss the other way is slightly abnormal. As a comparison, I pay $50 for 512/256.... so its great if ya want to compare to me.

$39.95 for 3Megs down? Yea that is pretty good. I am paying $50.00 for only 768 down and 256 up.

Cool

Is that a introductory offer or normal monthly price. I pay $44.95 monthly but get $10.00 off due to a bundled cable package that includes premium channels. It would be straight $44.95 without the package.

This is pretty much the standard rate. The rep I was talking to said this is their standard price for this service.

Anyone here ever dealt with Charter Communications?
Are they a good company to run with?

I'd say that's reasonable. But it's hard to beat the $35/month I pay for unlimited bandwith.

I am using a the local phone/cable company (Hood Canal Communications ). My cable connection is usually running at 5.5MB/sec down and 1.5MB/sec up and according to dslreports.com my ISP is one of the fastest in the country.

I use charter communications and so far have had nothing but absolutely great service from them. The price seems comparable to what I am paying. The connection is always up and running with an absolute minimun of down time. I say go for it.

Hi Ho,

It must be nice to have those speeds. I wish mine was closer to what you have. 768 down and 256 up compaired to 5.5 down and 1.5 up. It must be really nice.

Yes it is nice. That little company seems to have everything. They have there own cable internet, digital cable, firber optic internet, DSL, ISDN, and even their own cell phone service. I am good friends with the owner as well. It's nice to be able to go to the main building one mile away and talk to them if I have a problem.
