People who uncap their modem

Do people who uncap their modem usually get caught? Out of 100 about how many of them get caught on average?

I don't have statistics for you, but I found this:

Quote:
Be aware that cable modem uncapping is considered as theft and can lead to very serious consequences. Your ISP will detect your uncapping and will take action.
I won't link to the page I found this on since it does somewhat provide ways to do this, and it is illegal. You are stealing bandwidth.

I thought uncap is only for cable modems. Can you uncap a DSL line?
They will sent you a warning if it normally occurs.

i think u can only uncap a cable modem.

certainly if u were to uncap it fully (ie no limits.. which would give u a theoretical max of 38mbs or something) you would probably be noticed in a second and they'd send the heavies round.

if u were to uncap from 600kbps to 1mbit perhaps there is a chance they wouldn't notice but i dont think its worth risking

Yes, you can only uncap a Cable Modem, not an xDSL modem.

Batiso: Uncapping a modem is basically making it so you get unlimited bandwidth instead of the normal amount that you pay for. So if you are paying for 3mbps/356kbps, and you uncap the modem, you will no longer have those restrictions, and thus have much more bandwidth.

Uncapping is illegal and will not be discussed any further here.
