Moving web based mail to hard drive

I want to know how to download web based e-mails to a hard drive so that will be saved and accessed locally.
I have a number of web based accounts and want to consolidate all these together. Other then doing a copy/paste for text and saving separate images on each e-mail.

Can this be done without a separate program?

it depends on your accounts. you can use outlook express or outlook to look at hotmail accounts, for example.
you can pay for pop access to a yahoo account.

The only M$ programs I use is the O/S.
I refuse to use anything else because there are other and better choices. This includes Idiot Exploiter, OE and Coldmail!

There is no POP account so sending them to the same Web based account doesn't really accomplish anything other than clogging up the internet more than what it is now.

I will look into Mr Postman though.

I guess forwarding it to an email you use MS Outlook of something (that automatically saves it), would be the best option.

Do you have the Microsoft Outlook Exchange server as your webmail? Or just a regular ISP webmail? You'll likely need another program to save all your stuff, as a synchronize all.

Get a POP-based account, install your email program of choice, and do a mass forward. I use Pegasus for my POP access, have been for years, I like it. I wont have anything to do with Outhouse and Internet Exploder either.

You are really deadset against OE aren't you. What is so bad about it that you won't even open it? I use Hotmail and the spam filters there are top notch. No spam here. Anyway, in Hotmail I can put emails into a folder on the hard drive. Maybe whatever web based mail you are using has a similar feature.

It's our privilege to be dead set against the use of software we feel is garbage and a security risk, just like it's your privilege to be dead set in favor of using it because you think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Works both ways, my friend, and we must accomodate users' wishes here when we offer assistance. I have offered Bruce an alternative software package suggestion.

Bruce - doesn't your ISP offer pop accounts? Mine offers me like 6 or 7 of them.

I'm not deadset for using OE or IE. I don't even use OE and I don't think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I don't think it is absolute garbage either. It's a decent program that does what it is supposed to do. I respect others opinions. What web based mail are you using?

Thank you..........

The problem with M$ is their (his) determination to rule the internet by forceing IE & OE on unsuspecting users that don't know any better. Fact is there are other and better browsers out ther that don't have the continued security issues IE has had and will have because of it's tight intergration into the O/S!

Just because the Justice Department was probably told by Bush (and /or others) not to try to win the case against M$ (what else would it be since it surely wasn't because they didn't have enough evidence) doesn't mean there isn't a REAL problem with IE.

Back on subject. First this isn't my account, I was doing this for someone else who I was showing how to post a question in a forum. I used my name and had him enter the data in the first post. He does have POP access, but he hasn't set it up. He switches between cable and dialup every 6 months or so for $$ reasons.
Yea, I know it's lame at best, but what can I tell you.

I will have him set his POP account up and import the mail that way. I did look into this Mr Postman, but for the life of me sure can't figure out how to install this package with no .exe's included. I'm no software developer and have NO idea what you are suppose to do with those packages since I can't find any setup instructions on their site!

You have to have Sun Java installed. After you install Java just double click on the file that you downloaded and it should install.

Again, I'm not a software developer, but why is it done that way and where does it say that??
I have Java installed since I use Opera, I assume that is the same thing?

Why not just do it the 'nornal' way with a .exe file as 99.9% of the programs do??

1. Download the install .jar of MrPostman (something like install-mrpostman-x.x.x.jar) http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/mrpostman/

2. If it's not already installed, install Java (you only need the JRE). http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads/index.html

3. At the command line, change the directory to the folder where the MrPostman .jar is saved: cd \downloads\net\mrpostman

4. Invoke Java with the MrPostman .jar as an argument: "c:\j2sdk1.4.1\bin\java" -jar install-mrpostman-x.x.x.jar

5. The graphical installation program will guide you through the rest of the installation process.

The reason you need java is becuase its programmed with the Java Language. Its something like programs programmed in Visual Basic. The program wont run unless you have the run time files. Thats just how it is.
