Domain registration question
What are the negative ramifications of using "outdated" registration address and phone number when registering a domain name? Will it impede my ability to renew registration when that time comes?
thanks |

LkyOldSun,
I don't think it would really be a problem by using "outdated" information when registering a domain name. There are only a couple of things I can think of: 1--that some companies may try to validate the address against the one on the credit card you register with 2--IF someone were to try to contact you regarding the domain then they would have outdated information; but they would likely try contacting you by email first anyway so that's really not a big problem I have registered domains with GoDaddy with information that is not 100% accurate or up to date and have had no problems at all. I would not use bogus information since it could cause your to lose your domain. If you are concerned about privacy and someone doing a whois search on your info, then get a private domain through GoDaddy. It is a little more expensive but doesn't reveal any important info.

Great suggestion mairving! I did do private registration through Domains By Proxy (the company GoDaddy uses) on a few of my domains. I think it's only an extra $10 or so.
Instead of your info being listed, all you see is the info for Domains By Proxy listed. And, I went ahead and updated my info to the correct stuff...just in case. ![]() -LW |
