Boom agrivating problem!

I'm having an agrivating problem(thus the topic name^). I type a particular site url into the address bar on my IE 6.0 and I either get 'cannot find server' or the bloddy msn:"site not found" page. Now I've spoke with the admistrator of the site, he's says its there, and that's been verified.

I considered the fact that maybe it's my browser. So I cleared my history, and deleted all of my temorary internet files, as well as My TEMP folder. I even ran a scan for spyware, spybot and adaware. No viruses, I would've known despite the ever confirming virus scan. If it helps, I'm running 98SE. I don't suppose the rest of the specs are really of any relevence.

edit: I probably ought post the URL, huh?

That's the problem, I'm just getting the custumary 'cannot find server' page, instead of what I should be getting. This is an important page mind you, I'm part of the 'gaming council' I manage forums there. Like I said before, this is very agrivating.

The HTTP 500 error could mean anything and only the server admin can check the logs to see whats actually happening. I see that php is configured fine (my initial thought) because I can get to http://www.malvaria.com/boards/index.php and so on.

Check for a hosts file - you may be getting a redirect.

Also note that IE 6 on Win98 can be very problematic - revert it to 5.01 and see what happens - just go to add/remove programs and remove IE6, one of the options is restore previous configuration. You could also try Mozilla, Firefox, or Opera.

First, I must tell you guys, especially the gurus, how much I appriciate any helpful advice yoiu can provide. Now GLC one, no two flaws in that... One I've had no problems with IE6 yet or before(I'll tell you in a moment why this isn't a problem with my browser) and Two I'm using dial up, and IE 5 is twenty megs, that takes a lucrious amount of time to download.

I know it's not a problem with my browswer now but I didn't before. I spoke with the site/server administrator eariler this evening. Nice fellow, steve, he says we may have ramped up security requirement, and that may be affecting me, or he or his wife(not pointing fingers though) may have accidentally blocked my IP, because each and every computer(my computers) is met with the same problem. Can't access his site, or his other sites on the same server.

So it's one of those possiblites, or something my ISP did. Is that probable, do you think GLC?

If you go to Add/Remove Programs, highlight IE6, and hit Add/Remove, one of the options is "Restore Previous Configuration". Do that, it will put you back to 5.5 or 5.01 with NO download required.

That doesn't necessarily mean you WON'T have problems - my experience with a LOT of Win98 machines and IE6 has been about a 50-50 proposition.

If this happens with all your computers, then it's an ISP issue or their issue, as you said. I was simply suggesting troubleshooting methods that assumed a browser problem. This type of troubleshooting, the way I do it, involves reverting IE and/or trying an alternative browser.

we'll when the guru's are right, they're right. I have had more problems, as of late, with IE 6, but I've always had these problems(on win98 systems)with every IE verson. IExplore error pops up and wants us to 'close' it. then when you do that, it in affect uses the three finger cntrl-alt-del to close all IExplore windows open. Then, as of late on 6, the send or do not send error report comes up.

Well I think this more has to do with my internal systems and I igore the error prompt(by moving it down out of my veiw, hahah).

Anyway have you gurus ever heard of a server, because I can't get to any of his other sites, doing an IP block?
