connection problems?
I recently tried to set up a LAN but couldnt because of some problems with the NIC being recognized in the older Win95 computer. Ive been trying to get around to fixing this but in the meantime have restored the internet connection settings (IP addresses, etc.) back to default in the newer WinXP computer. Since this, however, i have had some strange problems. For the most part everything works ok, however when I d/l the new AIM i had have the program assign a new port to connect to, there are also things that will not work with AIM such as Direct Connect and the ads that are normally at the top of the buddy list. I am now experiencing difficulties after the new Callwave Internet Answering machine software d/l (The calls will not d/l after someone calls). I even had problems trying to d/l DirectX. Again, as far as I can tell my connection settings are correct and original. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Err, sounds like you have a firewall set up thats blocking certain apps and ports. Just download a firewall or recently purchase a router?
If by "for the most part everything works ok" you mean you can surf the internet than theres no problem with the connection itself. |

I found it. It was indeed a firewall.....norton internet security.....i had just assumed it wouldnt be it being that it was a notable company and the security level was set at the lowest level, but thats what happens when you assume. Thank you for your help.
