hello all blue collar guy, in a white collar world
Hi there, suppose I will give a brief back ground introducing myself.
I started off working in a blue collar world, brick mason. Was my grandpas trade, my dads trade and then mine. I made amazing money, but only about 5 months year. Rains, cold weather, or snows it gets shut down. Living in boston area, this happened a lot. So I went to school with a ton of money in the bank, during the off months. Grinded my school degree for general studies. Started taking some programming classes and networking stuff. Learned I liked it a lot, and found a company to intern me. Was a small company hung out for about 3 months, they had to let me go. Making a whopping 10 dollars an hour. Was quite the pay cut. But, I used the time to learn everything I could. Thought about going back to my trade work, but threw out a couple resumes and got snatched up by a help desk company. Was pretty cool gig, was making a solid buck. Took my N+ while working there and stayed for about a year. Then I put it in for my current job. A network engineer for one of the biggest gorillas in Health information systems. Got scooped up killed the interview and 2 years later still here. Finally making what I made doing construction work. Yet my back doesn't kill me when I go home! I love the IT world. I really feel like it's a blue collar job, trying to fit in a white collar world. Maybe thats why I got so lucky or just fit in so well. Never have had a problem getting work and I sell myself really well. Very thankful for this career. I feel if you really want it, you cannot fail in this line of work. You have to be hungry hungry hungry though, that's why it reminds of me of the trades so much. You are in control of your own promotions. Anyone else feel this way? Sorry for long intro just felt right. |

Hey dude,
Kind of that way myself, but never tried to go to school for PC knowledge. Graduated college with engineering degree and now building career as residential builder, though like to mess with techy staff. Hope you enjoy what you do. I do enjoy what I do. Good luck man. |
