Howdy from Texas

Hi gang,

Name's Bill and glad to be here. I used to be on top of technology when I built my system 4-5 years ago. It's a AMD 64 X2 3800+ on MSI K9MM-V with 2 gigs of mems. That's all the mobo can see and I had 3 gigs installed. I felt silly when I ran a memory proggie a few weeks ago and yelled, hey, I got 3 gigs of mems what are you talking about ??

Nevertheless it's serving me well as my needs are simple which are net, music and clips. An old Duke Nukem 3D game and a few flash games as well.

I though I'd build a new system which are Intel Celeron G540 (2.5 GHz) on an Asrock H61M-DGS mobo with 2 x 2 gig Gskill mems. Also a new Corsair 430 CX PSU and a nice Rosewill case. I planned to use my HDD and DVD-rom in it as they are SATA. Trouble is I sent the mobo and cpu back to Newegg for replacements as I got no video so I couldn't find out what's wrong.

When I went to check out some goodies on Newegg I was surprised how far technology had advanced. We got 8 cores ?? Someone pinch me I'm dreaming.

Seeing that there's no more AGP ports and PCI slots there goes my video card and my sound card so I'll have to use the onboards in my new system but they should be good.

Ok I'll shut up now and let y'all get back to regular programs and I'll see ya in the threads.

Welcome!

Not too surprised you are having issues with an Asrock motherboard and G.skill ram. We also don't think the CX series Corsair power supplies are very good.

I'm from San Antonio. So I picked the worst stuff possible? Duh. I picked them from the reviews and they were pretty favorable but there was a few cons. Seems that all reviews have cons and most of them are over OCing.

What reviews?

Reviews that appear on product pages tend to vary wildly in quality, and aren't always reliable.

Most of the folks on the forums here who recommend parts are professional builders who have tested and assembled dozens of computers--hundreds in some cases. They keep track of failure rates because at that scale, it's inefficient to keep using bad parts and it tends to upset customers. Parts/brands which have a tendency to cause problems and/or fail aren't recommended here.

So, the problems aren't typically with the reseller/retailer, but with the low-quality parts themselves.

For example, getting the same Asrock motherboard or G.Skill RAM from amazon versus newegg won't make the slightest bit of difference in terms of the problems you are having when it's an issue with the part.
