Hello All,
I want to introduce myself and say hello. I choose my username because even though I don't consider myself a stupid person, when it comes to computers I have a very hard time understanding what makes these machines work. I guess what I would need is a collage class where they teach you everything in an organized form. But since I'm too old for that, I have to learn what I can from anyone willing to help me. I seem to be having a rather new problem. I did a search and this seems very serious and hard to try and fix. I'm not sure which board to place it on. That's what I'm asking now, which board to explain the problem on? I'm getting the message OUT OF SCAN RANGE. I'm getting it with 2 different PCs. One is a refurbished HP I know almost nothing about, except it's running Win7, has a 78 GB HDD and 3 GB of RAM. The other PC was custom built for me. It's running Win XP. It was working fine until the Sandy Hurricane caused us to lose electricity. It's complicated what happened next. The monitor works fine if I connect it to a laptop. But when I hook up one of the 2 Towers, I get the OUT OF SCAN RANGE message. I got into Safe Mode with the HP computer, but I didn't know what to do. So where should I post the whole story?

Hi there and welcome.
Post the details in Computer Hardware. If you have video when you go into safe mode change the refresh rate (up or down) on the monitor and see if it works. It might take several attempts but keep doing it until it works. Just googling...here is a post that describes how which seems correct.
