Installing a disto WITHOUT grub?
I want to duel boot Windows 7 with a Linux distro, as I have in the past, for my new build (which has unfortunately been delayed due to more pressing expenses). I've been off of Linux train for about a year now (incompatible wireless card + cheapness), but I hear good things about the current versions of the popular distros...and definitely want to get back in the game.
The only thing I'm not looking forward to is dealing with grub again. I love the idea of grub, but it always gives me problems when I'm trying to uninstall/re-install an OS, whether it be Windows or Linux. In a perfect world, I would like to install Linux to one HDD, Windows to another HDD, and use the BIOS boot menu to choose which to boot to. Although I've used Ubuntu a bunch, at the core I'm still a Linux noob. Is there anything special I need to do to make this happen, or is it as simple as installing a distro without a boot loader? Thanks! |

You have to use some kind of bootloader whether it is grup, lilo, or loadlin.

Dual-boot Linux Mint 11 and Windows 7
I have 7 on my SSD and mint on a separate HDD, I just use the standard windows bootloader as it seems to get the job done just fine.
