Smile Linux OS for sister's PC.

I am just wondering if you have any ideas of a Linux OS for my little 8 yr old sister. The computer has 1 GB of ram, not really sure of the processor speed, but it has an ATI video card. I would guess she would use it for Internet, but I need to get a wireless card for it, since the router is in my room, and my iMac is wireless. Anyways, besides internet, she would, I guess, listen to music, maybe rip music from CDs, I know she goes onto YouTube. I really don't know what else she does on the computer. What do you guys suggest?

I would suggest Mint 12 LXDE
Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" - LXDE (32-bit) - Linux Mint

It should install everything she needs and recognize all your hardware without any isse.

I would suggest to use Ubuntu, it's a most user friendly distro.

Ubuntu is getting too bloated for older computers with limited ram.

I agree with Mint LXDE.
Tin likes this.

This is a pretty good site;

DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.

Has a little bit on each of the top 10 distros

There are so many out there that you could get lost - I've heard great things about Ubuntu, Mandriva and Mint.

I visit that site daily. There are so many good distro's and as you can see, there are many to fit everyone's needs. The one I linked requires marginal hardware and has excellent hardware detection. It is perfect for your need.

Ok. Here's the deal. I've finally made up my mind and decided to install Windows XP.
