I've been saying for the last 4 years I am going to build me a Linux box to play with... that was 4 years ago....

I tried that....I installed VMWare and set it up and installed a version of linux... it was very slow and unusable. Not sure wy it didnt work. I set it up with maximum cores and ram...
This MSI board isnt happy about a lot of things like that... |

Did you look for the virtualization options in your BIOS and turn them on? That should speed it up drastically assuming you're virtualizing the same architecture. (eg., virtualizing ARM with a host of x86 will be slow, but x86 host and guest should be fast.)
