The Modern UI (Linux and Windows)
Gnome 2; Still King of the Linux Desktop.

She hits the nail on the head as Mike did. As much as I have tried to embrace Gnome 3 and Unity, it just does not do it for me. Interestingly, people who are not computer savvy or XP users and I do a Ubuntu build for them, they seem to love Unity. If they have a smart phone and don't care about OS, I install Ubuntu (Unity), strange choice but works everytime
. Majority of other Linux builds get either Mint (matte) or openSuse (KDE).

Very interesting observation. Makes sense to me. I completely understand the move to the Unity interface, and I think that it was and is very "forward looking". That being said, Unity is NOT for me either. I still want the "Win 95" desktop experience on my desktop and laptop. I want the "Unity" type environment on my tablet/phone. I'm sure the two environments will live in harmony someday, or perhaps the desktop will fade away completely. Stepping up on my Linux soapbox again... That's the great thing about Linux. There is something for everyone. If you like Unity, you can have it, if you like "Start Menus" you can have that too. Plus, you can't beat the price, support, and stability. Stepping back down...
