Hi, I just installed Mandrake 7.2 on a logical drive so I can get used to it before wiping out windows and using it as my primary OS. I had some problems configuring my cable connection, and I'm at a point now that I cant seem to get past: I can ping my default gateway and localhost/IP address, and I can even ping past it by IP address. I cant ping by URL and Konquerer gives me a "Host Unreachable" error, Netscape gives a DNS issue related error.
Has anybody else encountered this? What areas should I start investigating? How do I manualy configure it to use DNS servers? |

I would say you probably have DNS problems. Make sure that your file /etc/resolv.conf
has these settings: domain yourisp.com nameserver (IP of the DNS nameserver that your ISP uses) nameserver (IP of the secondary DNS nameserver of your ISP) search yourisp.com |

Make sure your cable company still uses DNS servers. They may have swiched to DHCP and never told you. This happened to me yesterday. Something to check out anyway.

Even if your cable company uses DHCP, you will still have to use DNS servers via resolv.conf. The main difference is that DHCP sets up resolv.conf with your DNS info for you.
