Mac OS X Emulator

I'm interested in trying out Apple's OS, but I don't want to buy a new computer to do so. I found a few emulators that will run Mac inside of Windows, but I was wondering if anyone knew of an emulator that will run OS X.

Thanks

OSX Emulator

There is an emulator called PearPC, that can be found at pearpc.sf.net. This emulator can run MacOSX, although you need a copy of OSX to install from. It doesn't run very fast, but it is worth checking out if you're considering getting a mac. More information on the emulator and faster builds can be found at emaculation.com

Thank you but I'm definitely not interested enough to buy a copy of the os. I guess there probably aren't any emulators that will run the os without owning it, but if there is I definitely will give that a try.

To legally use OS X, purchase a copy of it.

Sorry about that. I just want to say that I do not condone infringement upon intellectual rights property and I was just interested in a possible legal emulation method. As in, I would not actually be running OS X, but emulating it, I don't know if this is possible or would in fact be legal, but if it is I would be very interested in exploring that realm.

lol i486 we know the forum rulz.

I wanted to know if there was a legal way to run mac os X in windows to try it out.
No one said anything about running it illegaly, calm down lol. Just curious if there was a way, you never know. It would be smart for apple to come out with a demo version of osX that will run in windows to possibly convert some people to buy an apple computer.

If apple make OS X to run on X86 hardware it'll be the end of Apple. The make 90% of their revenue on hardware, Mac's being 70% of that, porting OS X will negate the need for apple hardware and they'll lose a great % of their hardware revenue. Don't ever expect to see OS X on x86.

Emulators never have the full functionality or at least full speed and capabilites. Apple would not lose out from an emulator because people would still want to use OS X on Apple's hardware. If what you are saying is true, Apple would already be out of business, because mentioned in the above posts there are OS X emulators (or at least one), but you still have to buy Apple's software. If I truly wanted to use OS X, I would never solely and seriously run it through emulation.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to just an emulation, guess I should have been clearer. But still, even if Apple did release and emulation, do you think it would convince wintel users to spend the money on a Mac?. Personally I don't think it would, most people are happy with their $500 dell and have no intention of spending any more. Apple doesn't want that market share as it's a loss leader, thats why there are no $500 macs. So if it won't get people to switch why bother with the expense of creating the emulator to begin with.

Emulators for the most part (like the one above) are created by individuals not by the company. I agree completely with you, Apple would not profit from an emulator so they wouldn't bother making one. Although I think it would be a good idea to create some sort of demo emulator so that Windows users have the opportunity to experience the world of Mac, profits could be made by switching users from Windows to Mac. Personally, I would like to try Mac, but I don't want to buy an expensive computer only to find that I don't even like the OS, it's too much of a hassle.

I know that I would never have tried Linux if I had to buy a new computer just to do so. If I did I would be very disappointed because I have found that I do not like Linux nearly as much as Windows XP. I don't want to go through the same thing with a Mac and have sunk costs.

if you have any friends that have them, just start using their's. a lot of mac users i know are all about getting PC people to switch and will let you experiment with theirs, like when you are over at their house or something. one of my mom's friends is a die-hard mac addict, and so i just spent a lot of time using hers whenever i was over there and loved it. bought myself an ibook, should be coming day after tomorrow. osx is what made me switch, never would have done it before that.

I will install this on my laptop and let everyone know. At first glance it just looks to be a theme on an extreme level. To truley experience OS X you need to deal with the acutal thing. The structure and set up are very different to windows. I will post more after I install it.

Update.

This is nothing but a theme skin for windows. It changes icons, taskbar locations and a few other things, but it is still XP underneath. This "emulator" is nothing but a skin. There isnt even a small bit of OSX with the exception of the dock, and that is just the program object dock that is free and can be used sans FlyakiteOSX.

I found it very cumbersome and nothing like OSX (yes I am an OSX user). I wouldn't recomend installing this to get a feel for OSX
