ISO image
OK, I've burned a CD that says it is an image file of Linux oprt system (Knoppix) but I cannot boot from this CD.
Have I just made a copy of the image or what? When I right click on the disk and hit properties it says there is 689 MB of data. I set my bios features to boot from CD rom but it still keeps booting XP from the hard drive, no boot from CD. I should mention that I have already followed all of the instructions for burning an ISO using Nero (obtained from the Linuxiso site). HELP! -Kev |

Did you set your boot order in the BIOS, to boot from CD-ROM first. If not this could be your problem.. as long as you say you burnt the ISO correctly.

When you went into Nero did you creat a Data disk or an image disk? You don't want to burn a bootable data disk. You need to burn an image disk then select ISO image from the file type. You can also run MD5SUM to see if the disk has errors on it.

If you set the boot order correctly, and it wasn't working, then you burnt a Data disc as mentioned above. That is the one thing you have to watch out for. I accidently did the same thing a few times, only to find I burnt coasters, because I burnt the ISO to a data disc, and then I couldn't use it.

OK. I followed all the instructions for burning an ISO disk, but I guess it's time to try again.
I set the bios to boot from CD rom only. I must be burning a data disk somehow. Does it make any difference how the original ISO file is saved? I saved it to the desktop in XP and then selected it from NERO, designating an image file to be burned. I've tried this twice now and still keep getting the same result. Now I have TWO coasters... -Kev |

Try burning the ISO from Nero Express. Just click on "Disc Image or Saved Project", when it loads up. Nero Express should be included if you have the Nero full version. I hope that works for you.

if you can't get nero to do that job, i might recommend Alcohol 120. it is a shareware program with something like a 30 day free trial. this is what i use to do all my .iso burning, hasn't failed me once. it will also rip iso, which is pretty cool.

It shouldn't make a difference where you save the file. I save mine to desktop and burn it with nero when I get around to it. Make sure the Linux you are downloading has an .ISO extension. Then open Nero and click on "disk image or saved project". When it opens the window for the files you want to add to be burned, where it says select "files of type" scroll down until it shows .iso. This should then show your linux file in the window. Click add, or drag it to the nero window. If you have done all this and are still having no luck then you may have a bad download. Check it with MD5sum.

I just noticed that in Nero express the last option is to burn image. I think I was clicking on data disk before and then selecting image file in the menu.
I lost my original download ISO so now I have to go back and download it all over again!!?! My server keeps resetting right in the middle of the download. Persistance...NEVER GIVE UP! -Kev |

THat was probably it. You want to make sure to burn an ISO, and not a data disk.

Yes, your version of Nero must be the same as mine. The Disk Image selection is the last choice on the menu. That is the one you want to use.
