will i be able to install suse 7.3 on a P75 or P133 processor? i have 32mb of RAM and a 2GB HDD. if i can't then is there any linux distro that will work on these systems? i would prefer a graphical version over text because i have no idea how to use the command line interface

U-Toast: Please stop these random posts; this is not a chat room or an IM, we do not tolerate such inane chatter.
enhanced08dotcom: Unless I am mistaken Suse 7.x came with kernel 2.4.xx; you could probably perform an installation on a P100/32MB RAM/2GB system - but just barely, but you need to forget about being able to use a GUI. Your linux experience will be a bad one. You at least need to give it better RAM. |

hmmm..... well if i get more RAM would i be able to run the GUI? if not whats a good place to learn the basics of a command line interface? i got these pcs (old IBMs with P75's 32mg RAM) from school and was told to make a cluster with them for extra credit. i'm thinking they are too old to run as a cluster and if so then i want to make a folding-farm with them. the problem is still that i have no idea how to use a command line. i can't even use it on windows!!! this is the first time i have installed linux on a system.

The only way to learn the command line is to use it. I sure as heck didn't know anything about windows(mac user) until I used it basically non stop... now I know way more then my friends will probably ever, unless of course they decide to change the, "Call Chris" route that has been pretty much dug for them all
If you force yourself to use command line only then you will know it, and a GUI will be a sinch. Also most tips on how to install and configure most programs are all command line based, so you end up opening a terminal anyways. I say jump on in!

are there any websites that would help? i'm not too fond of books i would prefer a website. if you don't know of any what book do you recommend? and are all command lines the same on all linux OSs? (like RedHat, SuSE, etc)

I don't think a full install of SuSE 7.3 will run (very well) on a p133.
I had SuSE 7.0 on my P200 MMX and it was not very fast. Better don't install the GUI, but you can try it |
